Every fall I get this burning desire to go visit places that are bursting with colors of birch, aspen and maple trees! Living in Southern Cali we only get a tiny glimpse of fall color. To make up for that, I designed a shadow box art inspired by birch and aspen forests!
If you saw those Dimensional Lanterns, you know that I love this paper- [easyazon_link asin=”B006P1EQXA” locale=”US” new_window=”default” nofollow=”default” tag=”apieceofrainb-20″ add_to_cart=”default” cloaking=”default” localization=”default” popups=”default”]Neenah Exact Index Cardstock, 110 lb.[/easyazon_link] It’s about 215 gsm weight.
For this shadow box I used the same paper, you can also use something even heavier.

To Start, download the template and print out the 2 pages. Here’s the pdf you can print, and Silhouette file of page 2 – I hand cut page 1 since it’s easy.If you don’t use a Silhouette machine, no worries! It’s easy enough to cut with an Xacto knife. After cutting out the areas, gently score the lines where folds are needed. This will give a nice and clean fold later.

I used a [easyazon_link asin=”B009GZUPFA” locale=”US” new_window=”default” nofollow=”default” tag=”apieceofrainb-20″ add_to_cart=”default” cloaking=”default” localization=”default” popups=”default”]Silhouette Portrait[/easyazon_link] to print and cut the first page, then did all the rest of the cutting and scoring by hand.Place the background piece inside the frame piece, and use double sided tape or glue to secure them together.
To hang it, I used double sided tape, you can also make a little tab with paper or string, or place it on a table. Voila! Our little window to a fall birch forest! If you love easy paper projects, check out these 2 sets of dimensional lanterns! Set 1, and set 2. Happy creating!
